Prior to the broadcast of "Murder by the Book", NBC aired two pilots of the show, both with Falk as Columbo and writing by Richard Levinson & William Link.
As a regular series for the first season, it originally aired Wednesdays at 8:30-10:00 pm (EST) as part of The NBC Wednesday Mystery Movie.
DVD release
